Updating A Character

If you would like to change your character's canon point, please fill out this form with the requested information and leave it as a comment to this post. Please note that canon updates are treated the same as applying from new canons, in that the canon point must have been "out" for at least 1 month before they can be updated. As always, please be considerate of spoilers when interacting with other players.

For characters ICly, it is very similar to an in-game death experience: they will feel themselves dissolving from the Svelte world and be subjected to the alarming sensation of being deconstructed atom by atom. Characters returning to their native worlds may retain some vague impressions of the Svelte world, but not so much as it would change their actions (that is, you can't use them to make the character an AU version and branch off to a different canon path). For most, it will seem like a vague dream or a very unusual sense of deja vu.

Upon re-materializing inside the simulation after 24 hours, characters will have all their memories of their previous time in Svelte in addition to their new memories.

MAKING A REQUEST

Players who would like their characters to either acquire an item from their world, or who wish to permanently retain a change to their character (new ability, new appearance, etc) can spend the special, very rare currency called Booleans. These are IC tokens that are distributed only through in-game events, and below is a breakdown of the costs associated with each type of redemption.

Please note that these redemptions are for "extra" or "bonus" perks that players wish their characters to have. If a character requires specific resources from their worlds for their health or well-being, those items do not have to go through this process. Further, boolean redeems are not the only way certain effects or regains can be achieved — they may also appear as special plot events from time to time.

SPECIAL NOTE: Characters may give their booleans to one another, however a character who disappears due to a drop, etc will not leave their otherwise ungifted booleans behind. If your character is giving their boolean(s) to someone else, please drop a quick note of it here so that my spreadsheet can be matched accordingly, thank you!

This page is for submitting redeems/gains only — if you have questions about regains, including if you want your character to acquire something in-game that is not covered by the list below, please direct them first to the FAQ so other people can find the information as well, thank you!


TYPES OF AVAILABLE REDEMPTIONS

[ A ] GAIN EXTRA ABILITY/POWER/SKILL (TEMPORARY) 1 BOOLEAN
Character gains an ability (either from another character with their player's permission) or simply spontaneous, lasting the player's choice for duration (max 2 weeks). Good for plot/CR enhancement! All gained abilities still subject to power nerfing rules (no breaking the simulation, etc).


[ B ] 1-2 PERSONAL, NON-MAGICAL ITEM(S) 2 BOOLEANS
Items such as non-powered weapons, books, clothes, household articles, general sundries or supplies, ordinary possessions (canonically theirs or otherwise), etc.


[ C ] PERMANENT PHYSICAL CHANGE (MINOR) 2 BOOLEANS
Affect most superficial characteristics: hair/eye colour, height/weight, distinguishing features, etc - also includes the ability to turn this change on/off at will. (Permanent meaning the ability does not disappear, not that it must always be in use.)


[ D ] 1 MAGICAL/CUSTOM/SPECIAL ITEM (SMALL) 3 BOOLEANS
Powered weapons, special artifacts/talismans/etc, (canonically theirs or otherwise). May also include small (non-sapient) pets/companions/etc which were not brought in with the character. Size limited to something reasonable carriable.


[ E ] GAIN 1 NEW ABILITY/POWER/SKILL (PERMANENT) 3 BOOLEANS
Character permanently gains an ability (either from another character with their player's permission) or simply spontaneous. All gained abilities still subject to power nerfing rules (no breaking the simulation, etc).


[ F ] PERMANENT PHYSICAL CHANGE (MAJOR) 3 BOOLEANS
Change of species, additional limbs, anything that would render the character looking like another person (so full body disguise, etc). Also includes the ability to turn this change on/off at will. (Permanent meaning the ability does not disappear, not that it must always be in use.)


[ G ] UNLOCK PRIVATE CITY LOCATION 4 BOOLEANS
Characters will discover/be led to a hidden location within the simulation. This may be something that has been custom-generated for them, or a location (partially) from their own world that has been modified into the simulation. Only characters who have been granted permission by the founder may access the location.


[ H ] 1 MAGICAL/CUSTOM/SPECIAL ITEM (LARGE) 4 BOOLEANS
Large items requests (magical/powered or non) such as vehicles, large (non-sapient) pets, high-powered artifacts/objects with significant reach in their effect, etc. For anything larger than a standard automobile, please let the mod know ahead of time as some items of this category may need to be scaled/modified to prevent game breakage.

Description: Note, both these abilities will only be used with OOC consent.
Moonborn kith blessing: Coda, as someone who was made an instrument of torture by their Keeper, has the ability to inflict mental anguish in a form that may resemble a mental breakdown on others. This may resemble a lingering bout of paranoia, depression, megalomania, even hallucinations and other psychoses. The effects last for a few weeks at a time, while Coda suffers from a weaker form of the same mental anguish for a single week. Those with psychic defenses may be resistant to this power.

Pledge sealing: One has to watch what one says around changelings; they have the ability to bind people to their promises. How it works is that if a changeling hears someone state something affirmatively ("No matter what, I'm going to win that competition!") or as an oath ("I promise I'm never going to lie to you again!"), they can call the Wyrd, the active force of fate, to witness that statement. Once the pledge is sealed, if the promise is broken, the person who made it suffers a minor misfortune chosen by the one sealing it (Coda), and they also know that the seal has been broken. Example penalties from the book include:
• One point of bashing damage (read: a minor bruise)
• A one-die penalty to all rolls for one scene
• A two-die penalty on a specific Skill for one scene
• A three-die penalty for one specific roll
• A minor supernatural effect (character’s reflection faces the wrong way, character causes milk to spoil, cats scratch or bite the character, etc.) for one scene (let's be real, this is the kind of thing I'd be doing to people most often)

When creating a seal, the changeling can also strengthen it. Doing so requires spending a Willpower point as well as a Glamour point. If the character does this, the player can levy a more stringent penalty for breaking the seal, including:
• One point of lethal damage (an actual physical wound)
• Three points of bashing damage (a significant bruise)
• A two-die penalty on all rolls for one scene
• A three-die penalty to all rolls with a specific Skill for one scene
• A five-die penalty to one specific roll
• Use of one of the changeling’s Contracts on the target, activated when they break the seal. The player rolls to activate the Contract and notes the successes; the effect applies when/if the subject breaks the seal.

A seal is broken when the subject either attempts to fulfill the promise and fails or becomes incapable of doing so. For example, someone saying “I’m going to kick his ass” would fail to fulfill this promise if he picks a fight with the other party and loses, or if the other party were to die before the fight happens. If the subject had said, “I’m going to kick his ass if he doesn’t leave my sister alone,” the subject is under no compulsion to start the fight if the other party does, in fact, stay away from the sister. If, however, the other party dates the sister and the subject makes no attempt to fight him, he breaks the seal and the consequences apply.

Description: The Resonance Blaster! A small (when scaled for a Cybertronian) gun basically shoots sonic booms. It can generally knock a Cybertronian off their feet, cause disorientation, knock them out, or if aimed at someone long enough, can crack plates. For examples: a handy video of Knock Out making puns. It's never used on a human in canon, but if it can toss a Cybertronian it probably wouldn't end well? But if it needs to be non-lethal that's fine, he's not planning any murder sprees with it. Just an anti-Tailgate getting near him gun.

Any notable changes (physical/abilities/etc?) Katsuki had another power at his previous game that I am an idiot and forgot to add. The description of the power is as follows:

Explodo Heals

Katsuki can use his own stamina and healing ability to heal others injuries, both external and internal. He does this by physical contact, putting his hands on the other person. The contact does not have to be on the wound and it can be as simple as putting his hands on their shoulders. How much he is able to heal depends on the scope and severity of the injury, e.g.: if someone is on the brink of death, he might be able to stabilize them to buy them a little more time, but he isn't going to be able to heal them back to 100%. But if someone has a nasty looking cut, he'd be able to heal that completely.

WEAKNESS:
Other than the limitations, the power relies on his own stamina and healing ability both through the nanites and his body's natural abilities. Depending on how much he has healed, Katsuki may heal more slowly or not at all for a period of time. Also, because this power uses his stamina, his ability to use his explosions may become limited as well. If he pushes himself too far, he might pass out, which could be dangerous.

Current canon point: end of her introductory novel, after escaping Hotel Fen with Victor
New canon point: same, but the said novel is now in its final stages so there have been some changes!
Any notable changes (physical/abilities/etc?)
  • Her full name is now Maria Silje U. Storstrand. She doesn't use Maria, except when she has to fill out official/government forms. Her mother's maiden name is Untalan.
  • She is now half-Filipino, instead of being ambiguously half-Asian. She knows a little Tagalog but her main languages are still English and Norwegian. There's also an added emphasis on her being family-oriented, and her more conservative upbringing.
  • The novel doesn't confirm why she was lured into Hotel Fen, although she and Victor have their speculations. It also doesn't confirm why she was killed in her past life, or why she has been reincarnated.
  • The novel doesn't yet detail Loki's imprisonment as a result of Baldr's murder, or what else happened surrounding that.
  • She only remembers dying once in the past, though she's had dreams of other deaths since coming to Svelte.
  • She didn't manage to recover Skíðblaðnir (Freyr's magic ship) while in the hotel.
  • As a Valkyrie she had a winged horse, though the pegasus' name hasn't been revealed yet.
  • At some point I'm changing her PB to either drawn icons based off her official character art, or Alexa Steele. Janet will still be Sigridr's face though, because I love her lmao.

    PERSONALITY: Where Astral appears emotionless; 96 appears emotionally volatile. Thanks to 96's brief time spent with a human host before reintegrating with Astral, he understands emotions far better than him. His joy is unhinged while hatred and anger are often destructive. Fear doesn't bewilder him, it's a weakness (which he can feel just as strongly as Astral). Hope? It has its use, though he finds it incredibly fragile. 96 is at his most dangerous when he does appear as eerily calm as Astral.

    96's ego is massive. He sees himself as the strongest Number, stronger than Astral (the Original, NO. 99), which is why he tries so hard take over Astral's body. He doesn't take anyone seriously or bother to perceive them as a threat. Why should he when he's clearly superior in every way? This makes him incredibly easy to fool.

    In many ways, he's the same as Astral: just as vindictive and curious. He wants to know more about the world around him, though it's twisted through the lens of an egotistical teenager who loves violence. god does he love violence

    ABILITIES:
    Limited Shapeshifting - Astral and 96 can manipulate their form to a limited degree, and are able to elongate limbs and sprout tentacles at will. Astral doesn't use this to the degree or control of NO. 96.

    PHYSICAL: NO. 96, when in control of Astral's body, appears inky black with red markings in the shape of a heart on his face.

As discussed briefly on Discord I'll be updating him from 1e to 2e of Changeling the Lost; narratively/personality wise absolutely nothing changes, it's all mechanical notes. A full sheet for his updated skills can be found here, but here's a summary of his changes from his app.

    SO! From the top:

    Ogre Blessing/Curse
    Blessing and Curse have been updated, now very different functions. Blessing has new combat function (temporarily exhaust opponents will to fight), is optional on Gil's part and can be solved with one-on-one discussion.

    Gristlegrinder Blessing
    Extra addition: Gil is now able to swallow anyone a size category smaller than him (Gil, as an adult human, is size 5). Opt-in only, will also be discussed with thread partner/s ahead of time if it looks likely, as Gil will not often use this.

    Autumn Mantle
    Same strength and aesthetic (sound of dry leaves underfoot), but allows extra insight into True Fae or Faerie investigations; this applies to investigating other Changelings. (Can also regain Glamour by facing his fears to investigate danger, but that's mostly narrative)

    Merits
    2e Changelings start with 10 dots, and some old ones are phased out. All Merits are listed on the sheet above, and (apart from his Mantle) are entirely mundane. The use of Headbutt would be discussed with thread partners (but theoretically he can totally give the Cybertronians a concussion now). Furthermore he'll no longer have the Token The Truth Shall Make Ye Fret, as it's technically a merit and being replaced.

    Contracts
    Several contracts got dummied out or edited, and 2e Changelings start with a flat 6 instead of point buying, so Gil has 6 contracts now. Witches' Intuition continues to be opt-in, others don't require permissions as the magical aspects only affect Gil; Shared Burden is a healing spell.

    Hedgewall creates a hedge-maze that may cause significant environmental damage in up to a 15m radius circle (up to 4 stories high) at Gil's discretion; the actual shape can be anything he wants. This lasts until the next sundown, and may damage to anyone that tries to climb or attack it without appropriate protection. I don't know if you'll need warnings or anything if this is done in a location where it can cause structural damage to things, but I'm listing it fully for easier access for you.

    Other Changeling Abilities
    Gil is now able to create spontaneous pledges and oaths using Wyrd now, as described by Coda during their regain.
    While I believe this has been discussed as an acceptable ability, I'm also formally adding that he knows how to dreamwalk now, though he is not practiced with it at all.
    In 2e as well, Changelings can forcibly harvest all of a target's Glamour, a process known as reaping that induces symptoms similar to lethargy, exhaustion or depression. This would be an opt-in only ability, and a rarely used one at that.

    Gil will also be rather disoriented immediately following this update, and won't have immediate access to any skills that require activation, such as his Contracts and Blessings, as he adjusts to the deja vu weirdness of this update.

    Description: Nostradamus grows an incredibly awkward set of functional vulture wings and can fly. His wingspan is about eight feet across. He can fold his wings close to his back to look like a dark feathered cloak, but holding them stiff like that is uncomfortable for long periods of time.

He's a cuddly bun who can zap if need be but is mostly too friendly and affectionate for his own good.

    Just one last thing please... we know when it's deactivated the disk is still hella large and Silje is just 5ft hahaha so is it okay that it collapses to the size of a travel backpack so she can carry it around? Or is it mysteriously light enough for her to lift but not by non-authorized users? (I was almost tempted by the phase shifter because it's more portable, though it's not quite what I had in mind for her lmao.)

He cannot make them do anything beyond their physical capabilities, though--he's not gonna be able to make the basic printer machine send faxes, or make the door come off its hinges.
