ıllıllı APPLICATIONS ıllıllı ◀ PLEASE SEE THIS POST FOR MORE INFORMATION ▶ APP CYCLE INFORMATION Applications open at 12:01PM (ET) on the 7th of the month and close at 11:59PM (ET) on the 12th of the month, or when all available application spots for the month have been filled. The game adheres to Dreamwidth timestamps — applications posted outside this window will not be accepted. (Timezone Converter?) Apps are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. You may submit 1 application per app round. A reserve is not required to apply, but is encouraged. You may not apply for a character reserved by another player until their reserve expires on the 10th (if no app has been submitted). We do not accept application challenges. Please read through the Rules and the Frequently Asked Questions posts before submitting an application. Guidelines for eligible characters are located in the FAQ post. CHARACTER LIMITS There is a total game character limit of 80 characters, of which no more than six can be from the same franchise in play. The current character count, and any canons at or nearing cap, can be found on the Taken Characters page. SUBMITTING YOUR APP You may either post your application in the comments or link to a non-locked post in your journal. If your application is in a journal post, it must be left unlocked for the duration of the character's tenure in game (so players and the mod can reference it!). If your application requires REVISIONS, you will have 72 hours to provide them, otherwise your application will receive either an ACCEPTED or DECLINED response. Please submit your application with the subject line: Character Name | Canon | Reserved/Not Reserved Applications are not screened. SPECIAL NOTE: Due to the capped nature of the game, placing a reserve does not guarantee you an application spot with regards to either cast caps or overall game cap. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with regard to the overall caps. Reserving a character simply means that no one else can place an application for that character unless the reserve expires. ıllıllı APPLICATION TEMPLATE ıllıllı PLAYER INFORMATION PLAYER NAME: How you prefer to be addressed; handle, pronouns, etc OVER 18?: This game is 18+ only PREFERRED CONTACT(S): Plurk, Discord, etc OTHER CHARACTERS: Do you play anyone else here already? CHARACTER INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Vector/Shingetsu Rei
CANON: Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal (anime)
TIMELINE: End of episode 102 (after escaping his ruins and corrupting Gilag and Alit)
AGE: 24*
REFERENCE: https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Vector [canon point ends at endnote 10]
It's important to note that this reference source (and basically all centralized sources on Yu-Gi-Oh on the English-speaking web) uses the changed names and bowdlerized events of the English dub of Zexal. I will be using the original Japanese names (with some leeway for romanization) and the unbowdlerized versions of events. This means that, most notably, Vector *kills* everyone around him and then himself, in his past life backstory. Not "exiles." I mean, that's pretty easy to infer if you know the franchise's history with the "Shadow Realm," but it's important to clarify.
Since Vector kind of comes with a host of triggering material, I will be content warning basically all of his shit, and also have a multi-purpose permissions post.
*I am putting this here since it goes along with the bevy of "this character is child-unfriendly" information in this section. Vector's age, like all the other Barians (aliens/reincarnated human souls), is extremely ambiguous. He has reincarnation memories from a thousand years ago, he has consciously existed in Barian form for an unspecified length of time, and he disguises himself as a fourteen-year-old human boy to mess with his archnemesis (also a fourteen-year-old human boy). After the reveal of his true nature, his human form begins to look a bit older, to reflect the fact that we all know he is older and nastier than that. Given his age when he dies in his backstory, his emotional maturity level, and comparable age-fuckery from other counterpart characters in his position, I am pegging his emotional age, and the age of his preferred human bodily form, at his early 20's, and leaving it there.
PERSONALITY:
In a word? Mean. Vector is mean. Vector is a mean, nasty, vicious person. Never mind being disliked by his enemies, Vector is hated by his own allies, who find him insufferable at best and dangerously unhinged at worst. Vector takes pleasure in seeing others suffer in a childish, vicious way. Fueled almost entirely by personal gain, vengefulness, and spite, Vector is a friend to no one, and an enemy to all.
His number one motivation is self-preservation, however, so Vector at least knows who to suck up to, who to deceive, and who to appease until he can get them alone in a dark alley. Vector's favorite position to be in is "safe from retaliation," so he has a habit of making himself indispensable, either by being too valuable to his allies to dispose of, or entering the protection of someone much more powerful.
On a personal interaction basis, Vector likes to needle people; he enjoys making people flustered, angry, or despairing, because it makes them easier to manipulate or outwit. He will find a sore spot and PUSH until he breaks something. The only times we see Vector really off balance is when he is dealing with someone he can't faze, either because that person is crazier and more daring than he is (96), or because that person just had an anime powerup (Yuuma and Astral, sometimes).
Vector's only admirable trait is his tenacity. Despite orchestrating a good third of the events of the series, he still manages to come across as an underdog. Since he alienates everyone around him, he is often left to dig himself out of a tough situation alone, with huge consequences for failure, and still manages to wriggle out to fight another day. He takes a beating often, whether as part of his undercover identity as Shingetsu Rei or as himself, and yet constantly manages to come back stronger and meaner, like a cockroach. Having once swum into a sea of acid when damaged fatally to bet his entire life on summoning an elder god of chaos, using his own heart as bait, Vector demonstrates handily just how powerful spite can be as a motivator.
Vector also is patient, incredibly so, and will take humiliation after humiliation if it's part of his long game. He spends half a school year in disguise as a klutzy, cheerful, clueless middle school student, slowly gaining the trust and friendship of his archnemesis and fooling every other human and even his fellow Barian allies around him. His commitment to the 'character' never faltered, even when he fake-"unmasked" himself as a "Barian police officer" to further draw Yuuma into the charade that he was on his side. His acting is very convincing, due to his emotional intelligence, patience, and sense for others' weaknesses.
Supposedly, the Vector of the past was more like his false persona than his current behavior; it is revealed late in the series that Don Thousand, the Barian chaos god, altered Vector's memories in order to influence his behavior (as he did to all the other Barians to, essentially, bar them from heaven [Astral World]). However, Vector's response to that was to cling harder to his nasty personality, in denial that anyone other than himself could be responsible for his behavior. So, who knows….? He has a lot going on under the hood, but all of that "a lot" goes towards making him nastier and nastier. In short, Vector is a horrible crime boy.
ABILITIES: Vector's special abilities all have to do with his being a multidimensional rock alien from card game hell. Most importantly, he can transform his Barian body into a human body of flesh (he also always gets clothes when he does this, because all the Barians do, because the writers didn't want to write around physics), and back, under certain circumstances. In the human world, it takes energy to maintain Barian form, so this happens automatically. He can change back by entering Barian space or an energy field LIKE Barian space, or by using a power source like his Baria Lapis.
At his current canon point, he also has used unexplained cloning powers to make a fake double of himself for bait purposes, and also has the Barian god Don Thousand inside him powering him up; these abilities are dumb plot coupons that I refuse to be responsible for, and will therefore not be letting him have them in-game.
PERSONAL EFFECTS: Vector has little in the way of "personal possessions," being a rock alien who can synthesize a fake body complete with clothing. He will not have his Duel Monsters deck with him in the game at first, so his only real possessions are his human clothes and his Baria Lapis, a small red stone on a necklace that contains enough energy to allow him to Bariaphose (morph into his Barian form).
PRIZED POSSESSION: A short sword, with a hilt encrusted with jewels. It is an artifact from his past life, which he used to……. "exile" himself. He does not remember this, and the sword gives him a creepy feeling.

SAMPLE
SAMPLE:
Despite the stone being long undisturbed, Vector constantly feels it: an intense aversion to the place. Human bodies can't interact with pure energy the way that Barians can, but even his skin prickles like an alive thing despite his dull human senses telling him nothing should be there to fear. The way his fingers seem to know the cracks in the walls, his feet the stones of the floor, his nose the cool air: it all makes no sense, and the fact that Number 96 can clearly discern his unease does not please him.
No, as a matter of fact, none of it pleases Vector at all. Being the nervous one is not his way. He normally makes everyone else nervous. Nervous people are easy to predict.
So when Vector's favorite duo turn out to also be here for the Legendary Numbers, all of that pent-up unease and resentment immediately turn to a vicious joy. Yes, yes, not only is Number 96 distracted by the Astral Messenger, not only that, but Vector's favorite chew toy is within reach again, and so soon to boot! In the heat of the moment, it doesn't even bother him that he knows too much about the traps here, the rusted chains and cages and blades hidden in the walls - no, all that matters is turning them on Tsukumo Yuuma and whatever stupid little tagalong friends trailed in here with him.
And after the springs snap and the gears creak and the cage descends, Vector finally gets to see the wonderful, fantastic sight of Yuuma's face twisting in recognition, then horror, then anger. So worth it. To get even more payoff!
"Yuuma-kuuun!" Vector trills, crossing a leg over his knee on the stone throne at the center of the room. "Aren't you happy to see me?"
"Vector!" Yuuma growls through the bars, and hearing the hate in his voice is like music to Vector's ears.
"Awww, I thought you'd miss me!" Vector laughs, and pitches his voice higher, into the pathetic register he'd used to pass as a human child. "We were a team weren't we? I was so lonely without you, Yuuma-kun!"
Yuuma flushes angrily and breaks eye contact. Vector idly fingers the links of the chain next to the throne. Forget cold; he would enjoy this revenge warmed and cooled as many times as he could stomach it. It was the only thing he had to look forward to anymore, after all.

REVISIONS
Thank you for your app submission! It's looking good so far, but before a decision can be reached, we require some additional information from you.
➤ The wiki link provided lists a number of abilities that Vector has which are not detailed in the app, such as portals, brainwashing people, and possession? If you wish Vector to retain these abilities, they must be included as part of the application, and should also include weaknesses and drawbacks as well.
If you prefer some abilities not to be accessible in game for CR purposes, then OOCly we can say that the simulation has removed or nullified them. Please let me know which you prefer!
Please submit your revisions within 72 hours, or your application will be automatically declined. If you have extenuating circumstances which may prevent you from meeting this deadline, please get in touch with the mod as soon as you can. Thank you!
Re: REVISIONS
I was hoping to keep Vector mostly nerfed in-game with the exception of his form changing ability, so I am okay with nullifying the abilities I neglected to list in his application.
One possible future exception might be his ability to brainwash people, which isn't innate to Vector but rather is something he can do if he has the card Rank-Up Magic Barian's Force (other Barians use this ability with the card as well, and no one is shown using it when they don't have the card, so I feel pretty confident about saying it's the card despite the fact that the anime oddly never addresses it explicitly). In the future, I may do a player plot in which he gets the card via IC means and wreaks some havoc among the NPCs, with PC permissions discussed at large beforehand, but I don't plan for that in the first few months Vector's here.
As far as we see, the brainwashing power is only ever used on humans, and can be broken either via winning a duel against them, or when the Barian's Force-user leaves a certain physical radius. (I would provide more exhaustive detail and probably add more nerfs when and if I apply to have this power restored in-game.)
TL;DR: anything I didn't mention is either something I would like nullified forever, or removed until it would be dramatic enough to work towards restoring it within the confines of the game. Hope that clarifies!

I apologize; the end of the month was very difficult for me as I was moving, and then had some things come up. I intend to fully join this week. I'm so sorry that it's taken me so long.
